As much as I hate paying almost $4.00 a gallon for gasoline, at least my income does not directly take a hit when the price or gasoline increases. This cannot be said for many small business owners. Those who must travel the roadways daily to earn their living are surely going to start feeling the pain, if they have not already done so.
It’s not just the community businesses that will be affected. The tourist industry is expecting to take a major hit as well and this could affect more small businesses than those that have to travel to earn a living. SBTV.com reported the number of Americans making plans to take a vacation over the next six months has fallen to a 30-year low according to the leading business membership and research organization, The Conference Board.
This means reduced revenue for many thousands of small businesses around the country that rely on vacationers to supplement the coffers. Sadly, the ever increasing cost of fuel does not seem to be reversing trend anytime soon.
The out of control cost of gasoline can have price increasing affects on a wide variety of products and services we all need. Hopefully this petroleum inflation will be just a season. Otherwise, it could be a long hard winter for many of us.
