A local business owner in my hometown has a Rip Off Report showing in Google when you search for his name or business name in our city. The posting goes into significant detail about how a anonymous person was “violated” through theft by some of this business owner’s employees. As with so many of the postings on the Rip Off Report, it reads like someone with a real vendetta has it out for this business.
I know this business owner well enough to know that the info in the posting doesn’t seem realistic. No one would do what is alleged in the report and the reactions and actions of the poster to prove this “theft” seem like something out of a Lifetime movie. Not something a real person who has been wronged would do.
Unfortunately it doesn’t matter as the report is online and there is nothing that business owner can do. Or is there? Apparently, it has been reported online, you can make arrangements with the Rip Off Report to have the damaging page removed from the website by making a one time payment. This payment will cost thousands of dollars, tens of thousands of dollars for some businesses and reportedly can take many months to prove your case before the report is taken down, if it ever is.
Do not fall prey to the scum who operates the Ripoff Report. It’s bad enough damaging information is allowed to be posted on the site without any proof or evidence of the wrongs being alleged. Being blackmailed by the site owner of the Ripoff Report shows the real function of the website and the motive behind the postings.
Anyway, I say all of this to warn small business owners to be aware of what information comes up when your name or business name is Googled. There are step that can be taken beforehand to ensure positive information comes up in a search. Social network profiles, blog posts related to you or your business and any real newspaper press mentions that are also posted online are very helpful in filling the space on page one of Google for your name or business name.
Waiting until something shows up can make the battle that much harder. However, should you find your name or business posted in the Rip Off Report, there are some things you can do to push the listing off of page one in Google. Creating a Merchant Circle page for your business is a very effective way to take up one of the nine positions on page one for a search of your business. YouTube videos are also a great way to take up one of the positions as well. Setting up a Blogger blog about your business is also a good move. Create a Squidoo Lens for your business, a MySpace page and a LinkedIn page as well. A Twitter account for the business would also be a good idea. Posting articles about your business and it’s services and products in Ezine Articles and Go Articles can also be very effective. Each of these seperate pages will need to be optimized for the search phrase that causes the Ripoff Report to show in a search. This is generally a search for the business name, location and sometimes the business owner’s name. Also, and most important, each of these pages will need to be linked to from other websites to target the pages for the desired search result so that these pages will begin to rank and move other pages, such as a Rip Off Report page, further down the page until it no longer shows on page one in Google for a search of the business name.
Rip Off Report listings can be very hard to move from the first page of Google. There are professional online reputation management services that can assist in this process but the services of these companies are extremely expensive. Many of these services start at a cost of $3,000.00 a month and require a contract for six months of more depending on the circumstances.
I offer a service that will move your Ripoff Report page from page one in Google as quickly as possible. This service is a fraction of the cost of many online reputation management services and you only pay until you are happy with the placement of the offending report. Most reports can be moved from the first page of Google in about three months. After an evaluation of your specific report, I will provide a quote and a maximum time frame for replacement of the report. You will only pay for the quoted number of months in my plan. Service will continue until the report has been moved from page one in Google no matter how many months it takes.
